The LEARN ABOUT WOOL resources provide an ideal opportunity for Year 1 students in farming regions to investigate the natural, managed and constructed features of the local landscape.

The following curriculum-based resource packages include a variety of interactive resources, including downloadable PDF factsheets and publications.

These resources have been compiled to help teachers use the Australian wool industry to teach Year 1 Geography in an engaging and educational way that meets the requirements of the Australian Curriculum.

Overview

The following package of resources uses the Australian wool industry to help you meet the requirements of the Year 2 Geography curriculum.

Teachers in rural areas can use the following package of AWI resources to help students: use observations to identify and describe the natural features (for example, hills, rivers, native vegetation), managed features (for example, paddocks, woodlots, laneways) and constructed features (for example, roads, buildings) of a local place, and locate them on a map (ACHGK005), use observations and/or photographs to identify changes in natural, managed and constructed features in their place, for example, recent erosion, revegetated areas, planted crops or new buildings (ACHGK005), describe local features people look after, for example, bushland, wetland, park or a heritage building, and finding out why and how these features need to be cared for, and who provides this care (ACHGK005), identify the activities located in a place, for example, farming, locating them on a pictorial map, and suggesting why they are located where they are, locating the activities in their place on a pictorial map (ACHGK007).
